I've heard of it being done before but always thought that as soon as you remove the balls the snake has got used to it will get stressed again so is it worth it?

It's a great method for de-stressing snakes. The balls can be gradually removed, which gives the beatie a chance to scope out the viv and get used to the size. I dont think a snake would get stressed aftwer the removal of the paper balls, unless you did it too quickly.

Fantastic for hatchlings. They just get into the middle of them and use them as hides.

Perhaps you have a non-feeder. There are various possible reasons for this, but stress is an obvious possibility. stress can be caused or made worse by the rep not feeling secure. maybe it's a new viv. The scrunched up paper balls provide a degree of security for the rep, to get them back on track. The balls can be gradually removed over the course of some weeks.

I think the idea with larger snakes is that they always have somewhere to hide behind or under and there is always something touching their body, making them feel secure as if they are in a hide. Steve |
