Default Help Needed Urgently

Hi all,
Well I will fill you in on what happened:
Basically as usual I feed my snakes at around midnight on Fridays, but forgot and feed them last night (Saturday).
As usual I pick out the Brazilian Rainbow Boa and put him in the feeding box and go and prepare the food e.g. check that it has defrosted, by moving and squeezing etc and then put it in warmish water, to warm it up. I then take it out and dry it using paper towel/tissue paper.
Again as usual I open the feeding box and put in the 5 rat pups and he starts feeding on them, but gets to the 3rd one and decided to eat it sideways, he was struggling slightly, as it just took him longer and he started trying to constrict, which is when I presume he may have done something to his jaw, he then he finished the other 2 off.
So I leave him for a few minutes to re-aligning his jaw and make sure the food is in his stomach/finished feeding and took him out and then noticed his jaw looked a bit strange, so I waited for a minute or so and still his jaw was the same and he didn’t attempt to re-aligning it or nothing, so I panicked as he usually does it straight after the feed, but not this time. I decided to have a good look as to why he hadn’t re-aligning it/checking that nothing was stuck in his mouth etc so looked underneath him at a birds eye view of his mouth and saw that his jaw was kind of squished on the left side leaving a part of his left row of teeth exposed.
I then looked from a normal view at the head and noticed 1 of his top row of teeth was sticking out. So decided to open his mouth gently with a credit card and did so and then saw that the left side of the jaw was squished and was pulling over to the right hand side, leaving the top left row of teeth exposed. I decided to put him back in his tank as I didn’t want to start pulling him around even more, incase I did him any damage and caused a lot of stress etc.
I called my brother in to ask what he thinks, he said it looks broken, but he is no expert and doesn’t keep reptiles etc. There is a few things which I think it could be but am no expert and would only be guessing, so don’t know what to think it is but it really does look weird and is really worrying me, I hardly got any sleep last night thinking about it and then got up at 6am with no alarm set, usually takes me ages to get up lol. But I am seriously worried, not only that but he is my best and favourite.

I know you probably won’t be able to tell without pictures, which is a bit of a bummer. But i will take pictures later on if necessary. I checked him again at around 6:30ish but it is still the same, so I decided to leave him as I don’t want to stress him out. I know you all going to say rush him to the vets, which will be done, BUT I doubt they will be open for the Easter weekend and on bank holiday Monday

I remember reading a thread on CB forum and this is what got me worried, so I decided to have a read of it again yesterday night and today, it seems kind of similar although he hasn’t had his mouth open as long and hasn’t re-aligned his jaw as of yet and his jaw hasn’t deteriorated (what ever she means by this )

There a few different threads:

http://www.captivebred.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6447&highlight=

Apologies MOD’s for posting these links, but this is very serious and is for a good reason.

The more and more i re-read it and go over those links the more and more it seems he has it, if you know hwat i mean.

CAN ANYONE HELP ?

i had this problem with one of my retics,he had damaged a tooth and the vet had to dig it out, sounds like he could of knocked a tooth by eating side ways,if that is the case he really needs a vet asap but its not an emergency however he would be uncomfortable so i'de take him today if poss but it will cost you bud i'm afraid

No it doesn't seem to be a damaged tooth. It seems to be the jaw

Hi Anthony.
My vet friend has never come across Myostis in snakes, he has suggested damaged ligaments, loose toothe, abscess under tooth, substrate stuck between teeth........
I think a vet visit will be needed.
He did say he will ask arround re the Myostis though .
sorry I have not been much help

Yes Myositis is extremely rare in snakes, it was just that there was that thread in my 1st post, and what happened to my BRB and hers is similar.
Yes i did think it could of been ligament damage.
I am also thinking that it could be a loose tooth as i would seem lickely as the rat pup could have knocked it out, i don't think it could be an abscess under the tooth but may well be wrong. There is no way substrate is in there as i feed him in a seperate box and the bark is big, not small chunks.
Yes i will defo be taking him to the vet, hopefully today.

You have been a great help Wohic, more people like yourself are needed in this hobby. Thanks for taking the time to make your replies and get the advice i needed etc. I have left good rep for you and will let you all know how it goes.

Pics are to follow shortly
