be a pain in the bum if you have to take it out in the car every time you want to feed him

Not really as once a snake starts to feed and feeds on a regular basis then it should feed without being take for a drive

I have a similar situation to 1 boa but not quite as long and she has taken a couple of small food items (approx one small mouse a month). She looks fit and healthy, no weight loss and is very active every evening. She fed as reliably as anything for the first 18 months I had her, then I had to move her into a diffent building as we were having our house done. She had the same set up: 4ft viv with rep radiator day and night lights, places to climb and 3 hides. She stopped feeding over the winter, and the room she was in was not as warm (although her temps were fine) as the house was. She moved back in the to where she was originally, till same set up but no joy. Tried tubbing her to make her feel secure but no improvement so put her back in her viv. She is now on newspaper whereas she used to be on reptile carpet but thats the only thing I can see has changed and she has fed since she has been on it. One time trying to get her to feed, I did 'tease' her with it a bit to try and get her to strike (which she did) and then eat (which she did) but she has seemed scared of the prey ever since so am now kicking myself as that must have upset her :-(
I am starting to worry, but should I be worrying or not?! I am not sure even if she should 'go on holiday' to someone with more experience to get her ont he right track again. She is wuite a 'bold' snake for a royal, almost always has her head out of a hide and cruises around every evening. I have stopped handling her unless necessary in the last few months really as I was worried that may be stressing her more (although never a problem when she was feeding- I always stuck to the 'rules' time wise around meals etc!).
ANY help much appreciated! I am going to try some different food items and maybe the car trick if no joy as well next time just to see if it helps...

I was chatting to Jonny and he seemed surprised that this trick worked for me with stubborn royals.
Heat up the rat, and with minimum disturbance to the snake, place it on top of its coils, about midbody. Just draped across. then leave it alone, check back about 1 hour later. If it's not eaten by then, it isn't going to be eaten so try again next time. It seems to work best when the snake is under the paper or in a hide. I find it works much much better than leaving the rat somewhere in the cage, like outside the hide or whatever. Maybe it tricks them into thinking they've just killed the rat themselves? It works for me anyway

Yipee! My fasting Royal ate a gerbil!! In case it helps anyone else, I also upped the temps a degree and humidity a little for a couple of days first, heated it up and took her for a drive with it- she didn;t touch it but when I put her back in her viv with it she had eaten it when I looked 4 hours later. What a relief

Has anybody got any tips for me?

I got a CB '09 at the Brentwood show.

Was told that she had 6 feeds on small mice before I bought her.

I have tried her 4 times since having her.

Once with just heating the mouse up and dangling it in front of her.

Once by warming it up and leaving it in with her overnight.

Another time by warming it up and braining it and leaving it in with her.

Another by upping her temps and then offering food but she is still not eating!!!

I don't really know what to try next. Somebody said try gerbils or multis but there is nowhere near me that sells them!

Grrrr!

Smile Not eating.

I personally believe that the snake not feeding seems to stress the owner out more than the snake (if the set up is correct) itself. I have a baby Royal that hasn't fed for 1 month but no big deal. The important thing is don't stress yourself out & give them time. My adult female Royal also stopped eating so I tried a few things. In the end I tried teasing her with a dead medium rat to strike at which she did but she went uder her log & didn't seem interested so I took the rat into the kitchen, wrapped it in kitchen foil & led it on a hot radiator for 15 mins then split the brain & twisted the knife to leave a hole in the skull, placed it at the opposite end of the viv from her & near a hiding place entrance & went down the pub. Came home a few hours later & the rat was gone, eaten, consumed. Worked a treat.

I'll try with the baby in a week or so but guys & gals, don't worry unless you see signs of stress or illness.
