Angry Lice in our viv?

We did a big spring clean of our BRBs viv today, whilst taking everything out and cleaning it we found what looked like lice hiding in the nooks and crannys . It wasn't mites cause they were whiteish. Thouroughly disinfected everything with bleach and are recooking the wood they use as hides.

Does anyone know much about these little critters? Dunno if they came in with the orchid bark, wood, or plants we have in there. Gotten rid of all the substrate and using newspaper for a while.

Took some photos of Ibby whilst we were waiting for it to dry.

They're mites of a sort - not snake mites, though.

I had a minor outbreak of them last year when it was very warm in our rainbow boa vivs - changing out the substrate, bathing the snakes and cooking their wood/etc got rid of them.

I think they just like really warm, damp conditions.

If they were whitish globular shaped they were mites. Some mites can be parasitic and some can be beneficial. Cant say which you had without pictures. Some clean the tank and eat debris where as others can be horrid things and cleaning is the best thing to do.

Yeah deffo none on the snakes, thats what I was worried about first. Habu, lice mean the same here - head lice, body lice etc. Small, light colour and irritating. Mites are similar but darker - cling on and suck the blood, like the ones you get on snakes, but also on cats and dogs and your legs when you walk through thick grass! But as 400runner says they may just have been young mites...little buggers
