its not substrate, its the incubation medium (perlite)

I personaly prefer perlite, it is not so messy. With vermiculite you need to be so presice with the water/vermiculite mix (50/50 by weight), but I found that with perlite if you load the bottom 1/4 full with water and sit eggs on top of perlite thing are ok. just lay a bit of kitchen roll over the eggs. I will make a mok-up later to show what i mean if you like.
