just use frontline. i just tried alternative natural methods. the outcome?? my very expensive het snow male is now fighting for his life suffering from secondary parasites caused by the mites, he is currently in the vets and has been for a week costing me nearly £80 per week. he has hardly any blood left so little the vet can't even get a sample from him. he is passed the about to die stage but i nearly lost him because some muppet on another forum slated me for using chemicals on my snakes and advised other organic methods. I'll go back and tell them what Khaos thinks of those when i finally get him home. fromtline is quick and safe and i've always used it. as long as you take the water away for 48 hours after use you can't go wrong. please don't look at mites as a small pesky problem i've just learnt the hard way how serious they can be. as soon as you see them act on them and use the quickest method possible.

How awful!! I hope your snake does make it - it's very sad when things get to such a stage. I used the "natural" method with mine last time around as I don't really like using chemicals myself - 3 continuous sets of the so-called defender mites and they were total crap. Got Provent-a-Mite and it worked first time (as it had once before years ago). Maybe defender mites work OK on the smaller vivariums (can get at their prey easier) - but bigger ones (and I'm not talking massive here, I'm talking 4x2's) - only chemicals seem to sort them.

thank you. He'll be ok he's a fighter but it's a shame when i've been keeping snakes for twenty years. It's embarrassing having to tell my vet i was bullied into not using a product i've always used tried and tested and nearly lost one of my favorite boas as a result.

I know - it's always nice to think that you're using the safest stuff - that was why I tried the defenders but sometimes it just doesn't work out.

I just used the Frontline spray on mine and hopefully its done the trick. That and everything else in the viv and gave everything a good scrub and thourgh rinse. Including the snake lol.

a few people have mentions using frontline on snakes + diluting it first but by how much ???

An answer to the above would be great. It appears my baby has mites, just seen one walk across her she's in shed too

I have read that frontline is bad for baby boas, is that true?

I have read (so don't take it as gospel) that any of these chemical type things you have to be really careful of in babies - and in some snakes (adults or babies) they are not recommended at all. I have used Provent a mite successfully on adult boas and pythons.

I bought some Mite Off from the local shop. Just seen another adult today so resprayed her and everything in the tank. She is now in the process of demolishing everything

Is it me or does Mite Off just seem like washing up liquid mixed with some water??
