Hi,
Got a brooks king snake a few months ago, and he's been fine for ages. But a few weeks before his last shed, he stopped eating and hasn't eaten now in about 10-12 weeks. I checked his tank the other day for mites or any other bugs, and there were little bugs in the dust off his wood chip. So i disinfected a storage box, put some holes in the lid and filled it with water and put him in so i could clean and disinfect his viv. I disinfected everything including the wood chip, and plants etc. When everything was dry, i put it all back in, and the snake but the next day i had a look in again, and saw a black spider in one of his bark peices, we had a problem with this before. There was a little cobweb on his bark, and when we broke it open, we saw three of the spiders so we just chucked it out. And also, i had a look in his water bowl for any mites or anything, and there was this black bug, it looked like a black headlice kind of thing so i killed it. And when i looked again later on, there was another in his water bowl and one on the side of his tank. There not very big, but i just wondered what they could be? Could this be why my snake is not eating? Though he isn't bathing in his water, could these be mites? Help, pleaseee.
Thanks

Which Frontline is best?

The local vet had two types of Frontline

The type that's a single dose and put on the neck of a cat or dog - 10% fipronil

Frontline spray - 0.25% fipronil

Which is best for using on a snake? My boa has quite a heavy infestation

Yup, the spray is best. There's loads of info on here about how to use it.

Good luck with getting rid of the little blighters!

Well stuart, i would say start feeding them again when you are sure that the mites are gone, but thats just just what i would do.

I tested the effectiveness of ardap today, on a silverfish.

I trapped one in a glass (i have bloody hundreds of the things in my house) and sprayed the tiniest bit of ardap on it.

I then tipped it from the glass onto the floor gently, i've never seen anything die so fast from poisoning.

It took about, 4 seconds to stop moving and roll over, dead.

Default steve d

i know this may sound strange but the most affective way i have ever treated mite is with vegetable oil coating the snake then repeating a week or so later i tried this after frontline wasnt successful you must avoid the slough though also there is no risk with trying this i did consult a reptile vet before trying it.only downside quite messy but it certainly worked with mine years ago havnt had mite since
