can be caused by a few things, low humidity (not very common), just the way it's been lying curled up in the viv, or sometimes after a mite infestation or where a tick has been (only one scale should be affected). i think the best you can do is keep humidity high until next shed. that should keep the scales down until it sheds where it should naturally sort itself out.

hope this helps

most likely because of coils...

if you look at any boa when stretched out you will notice that he'll have rings of bent scales, this is wher ethey have been coiled up and occur naturally. As I said you'll get a ring of them though rather than just one. If its just one he could have caught it on something ?

As mentioned keep any eye on it, make sure humidity stays above 60% until teh next shed and see how it is then.
