can i ask a daft question now please? what is Amel and Hypo in snakes? how do you tell?

Its all a bit double dutch to me as im new to all this. Sure i'll get there in time. I've got one of each.
Typical the males get to go first though huh?

That, too, is quite simple once you know!
amel: short for amelanistic. Melanin produces the black pigment in snakes, and 'a' in front of a latin word means 'no', so, no black pigment.

Hypo: this is short for hypomelanistic. Hypo means 'less', or 'not much' in latin, so, not much melanin in the snake, so not much black in them.

Anery is short for anerythristic. Ery means red in latin, so erythristic means having red, and thus anerythristic means lacking red pigment: those corns which are black and grey in colour.

Haha, well, I dont mind being corrected when I am wrong! Well, close enough: Greek for 'red' then!
