Default Buyer's rights

Hiya, my matey bought a 3 year old king snake on Saturday, and looking at it today it looks like it definately has some scale rot. I saw it the day after he got it and it was clear so definetly not sprung up in these couple days. I know i don't have as many years of experience as others, but i know what it looks like, and any red on a black and white snake is obviously not meant to be there(!)
anywho, what would his rights be back at the smallish shop he got it from? We are heading up there on Thursday to bring it up with them. He knows the score with the treatment, and what will need to be done, as well as looking up rep vets in the area, just need to know if the shop will be able to help in any way, i'm guessing they'll offer an exchange but he's certain he doesn't want to do that.

Sorry for a long post

Thanks in advance people

Most decent shops will pay the vet fees if you don't want a replacement. Not sure on the legalities though.

you saw it the day after he got it and it was ok.?.are you sure it is not something he has done,if i was the shop, that is what i would be asking you.i hope the shop are open the paying something to the vets bill, but i would not hold your breath.as they will proberbly pull out the old "it was alright when we sold it to you" routine, that some of them do.hope all goes well for your mate though.

Thanks, it had the rot when i saw it the day after. It had definetly been there before he bought it.

Hoping they won't try to pull that, it's not a small area of it's skin, even if it did happen after it was bought there would have been no physical possibility that it could have developed that much in few days(!)

Thanks for the help so far

Hi, just to update, took the king back to shop we got it from, the till bloke looks completely bemused and called the owner, who was very temperamental and pretty damn rude. He roughly checked him over, had a look at the scale rot and tried to tell us that it was his patterning!?! For godsake.

Eventually managed to convice him what it was and after much frustration he handed over a partially full bottle of tamodine.
Better than nothing. He's now being cleaned with it twice a day. It's not a bad case so should take care of it do we think?

Thanks for people's help and interest

personally scale rot isnt really a problem to treat,,,,,povdine iodine in a 1:1 solution and then coated after with aloevera/flamazine will treat the problem within 3 weeks in most cases
