I have bought and sold snakes on before but I have always been very open about it, if the seller said I want this snake to go to a permenent home I would not buy it if I knew i was going to sell it, it is the way this was done that is out of order and it really shocked me, why upset the OP for absolutly no reason. Lies is something that really bugs me.

It shocks me to see how many people buy and sell willy nilly. People put it down to personal circumstances or a change in breeding plans or whatever the excuse may be. The reality is they don't want these animals. They never thought about the future, and that snakes live for quite a long time. Perhaps people should not buy 50 snakes if they are uncertain of their own future.

Pets are a privilege, not a right. And unfortunately many people think it is their god given right to own an animal... or as many as they want. Just because they can...

I sold Lacey because I felt she deserved a home where she could be a pampered pet, instead of a racked snake without much interaction. I had decided that year I would never breed her again after she became egg bound. She deserved to enjoy her "retirement" right? And Jenny did seem like the perfect candidate at the time. She said all the right things and they were a good match.

Of course I now wish I had never sold Lacey, and made the effort to provide her with what I thought she deserved. My mistake...

I have sent her a PM telling her exactly how I feel. Before this thread was made.

And I decided to make it a public issue for the same reason anyone makes a thread. To hear some feedback, to vent a little anger, to just tell someone! I want other people to see what type of person Jenny is. Because if she has lied about this, what else has she lied about to other people in regards to snakes she has bought. I am sure if the roles were revered and you were in my situation, you would want to vent as well...

Sorry but their is a wee bit hypocrisy here..you sold her on as she was no longer a breeding project, she could have easily been cared for in her retirement by yourself..Its a shame but its not fair to make this statement regards people selling their animals for whatever reason..least ways the animals are re homed hopefully to people that want & care for them..as I said earlier its a shame this has happened but its unfair to judge others reasons to re home/sell surplus animals

Which is why I acknowledged my hypocrisy in the last sentence. I know now I sold her for the wrong reasons. After learning a few lessons over the years of the importance of buying (and selling) for the right reasons, I can admit I did sell her for superficial reasons.

This was a long time ago. And I am only now finding out that she is alive and not dead.

After whats happened to me and my collection this year, you really learn the value of your pets. Anything that can go wrong, may go wrong. And you need to realise this before buying a live animal.

These are just my personal views, and I don't mean to imply that EVERYONE should think or behave according to my views. Thats certainly not what I was getting at...

Bizarre, truly bizarre. Cant understand on what planet telling someone an animal had died as opposed to being sold is more favourable.

Oh well at least she is alive and well.

I find the concept of buying an animal and selling it on weird!

OK, if you have a massive change in personal circumstances, but any other reason........

Maybe it's because I see all of my animals as pets, even if I do breed some of them.

I find it strange that this practice is almost considered the 'norm' with reps, but if it was cats or dogs, people would be up in arms!

The fact of the matter is, is it nobody elses business why people buy or sell their snakes. And I am sure that every single member on this forum had judged somebody for it. It's about value conflics and how we as a community react when we see people doing something we think is unfair, unethical, unwhatever. It's just life...

But to tell someone a snake is dead instead of just saying, yeah I sold it on is very strange. It made her look bad for a start. If Lacey had died in her care, I would have wondered what on earth was going on with Jenny's husbandry to kill such a big and healthy female.

Hey, I'm not criticising!

Each to their own is my motto.

As I said earlier, I'd much rather tell you I'd sold it than killed it!
