Just because the snake will sit on the glass does NOT mean that the glass is a safe temperature to sit on. I've seen a snake stick its head into a light bulb cage and get burned, too.

the tank has 2 thermometres in it..
one stuck to the glass in the middle.. and one laying on the glass.. dug into the aspen..
i feel the glass twice or more a day just to make sure.. and it is never hot..
if the temp goes up outside.. i turn of the reflector bulb...
i suppose if you have snakes as display animals... you need the "perfect" setup.. but if they are loving pets.. and you check them regularly and spend time on them... you can cut corners so to speak..
im currently working on a viv stack with my dad... that ahs 3 vivs on it... 2 of them are linked with a slider to seperate my breading pairs (makes it easy to introduce them again) and has a box on the side...
the box on the side has a large ceramic and heats the box plus all the vivs..
though vents of course.. no open holes..
then vented vivs themselves... and of cource a nice humidity area in the box wich is changeable.. so if they are sheding you can raise the humidity in each seperate tank (opening and closing vents)
still working on alot of it..., but it means i can essentialy power 3 vivs from 1 thermostat
again each viv will ahve its own thermometer and checked regularly
peace
