Default Lucistic rat- nose wound

Hi ya folks i only been of here a day or two and it feels like I been away for months.....

I went away for the weekend and this has never happened before with any of my snakes. But i got back late last night and have noticed that it looks like my luci rat has been trying to escape out of her viv from the hole that was made to put in the heat sensor/probe.

She doesnt normally like handling but was really happy to be out ....but she looked awful.....she looks like she has totally rubbed off a whole scale off her snout and it looks a pale yellow/cream colur rather than white ....I did check for motuh rot and shes doesnt have that...but the snout area feels quite rough and hard and is a pale brown around the outside....she even let me wipe it a little with wet cotton wool as i wanted to clean it to stop it getting infected.....and she never lets me touch her head

It looks sore but she looks and seems fine otherwise.....actually she is being the best behaved she has ever been and it looks like she has actually missed being out everyday. I will try and post a photo of it later guys...but could you lpease advise in the meantime

Bump!

Just wondering if anyone can advise on how I can take care of her wound or if i should leave it by itself to heal.....I didnt think snakes could rub off a whole large scale plate off thier face, but it does look that way unless in really wrong.....

What do most of you folks use on any wounds that are on your snakes????

is it just the top scale or is it like a bleeding wound. if it is just the top scale it shouldnt be too much of a worry as it will go next time she sheds

It is the top scale only, i cant see any blood or scabs on there but it possibly bled a lille when she did it as there was a bit of brown like dried blood just outlining the the perimeter of where the scale use to be you know like if you ever grage your skin but do not break the skin and the bit around the graze goes dry and dark brown......
The area is now very dry and a dry matt shade ...not shiny like the other scales around it.

Thankyou for your help I have been worried sick about her

Try holland and barrats 99.999% pure aloe vera gel, it works a treat, just dab a little on every few days and within a wee it shoudld be ok,

I had a bull snake that rubbed her nose scall off completely trying to escape, and 1 week later she was fine.

Good luck

my rat snake did the same thing last month and scraped his nose scale off. It looked pink and a little red round edges but not infected. I just gave it a basic clean with salt water and its all ok now

Phew Oki thanks to all of you guys.....honestly really thanks.....that has allowed my mind to rest ....I didnt sleep last night worrying about her....I kept thinking i would wake up and might find her dead or something...I know its stupid but it worried me something chronic.....

But thankyou all .........you have been very kind in settleing my mind ...and I will try both the salt water then dab on some aloe vera too.....

I have to feed her tonight...and she has a knack of pushing the mouse around with her nose and I was worried about infection....but i will try and wipe it tonight or tommorow to not stress her........

Thanks You Foks your wonderful

Im so glad i joined on here, im not sure what I would do without it....
