With have an established yearling Amel, he/she is brilliant, loves being handled, but the problem I have is that my son wanted a corn, we have got him a Miami Phase corn who is 6 weeks old. to cut costs down a bit we were hoping to put then in the same viv, is it possible or will the amel eat the miami?
At the moment the miami is in a holding tub inside the amels viv, the amel is about 2.5ft and the miami is about 8". Any help would be welcome. P.S. I would like to have them sexed, with the tail length I think they are males is there another way of telling or should I take them to the vets. ![]() ![]() Last edited by gandalfthewizard; 28-08-2007 at 07:23 PM.. |

TAKE IT OUT! it will yes, ot there is a good chance of it happening, i wouldnt put them together at all if possible. if the smae gender when older fights can occur, if they are opposite sex when older eggs could be a situation. and feeding can be a pain and checking for illnesses alot harder. hope this helps

It is *possible* that a 2.5 foot snake could eat a hatchling. It is almost certain that the hatchling will feel dominated and scared, be stressed, and this may effect eating, shedding and overall health.
It is general advised if you are going to put 2 snakes in together, make them of a similar size. You can save money by keeping the hatchling in a very similar tub/faunarium starter set up (£30-50) and perhaps keep them together later when you are sure of their sex, and when they are both the same size (ie. adults). As for sexing, the hatchling can be popped by anyone with a bit of experience with snakes, it is pretty easy to do and completely harmless. The larger one will need to be probed.Again this is not that hard, although a vet can do it - so can most reptile shops or experienced snake keepers with their own set of probes (don't try it yourself though!)
