Default Micro-chipping snakes?

Can snakes be micro-chipped? I've got a Bob Clark albino boa and I can't really afford to replace him if he gets stolen.

thats handy. But i dont think it wont help if the snake stays healthy as it wont need to go to the vets. or if they decide to take it in for a check up.

I am not sure how much use it will be to be honest, how many snakes get stolen and then when the new owner buys them... you take them to the vet to check for chips?

Maybe if you were worried that you might lose it, and need to prove your identity, if you are worried you know someone specific who might steal it you could use the microchip to reclaim it

Generally they are used in mandatory cases for CITES paperwork / identification, I don't know of anyone who microchips in case of theft.

If you are really worried, you can get insurance in case of both theft AND death.. which will cover you, but of course is a little more expensive than a single chip

I have to say i`m not a great fan of chipping to help recover animals if they`re stolen. My horse was chipped and she was stolen 4 years ago and we`ve never heard a peep.
As someone has said its unlikely that new owners check for a chip. I`d insure him instead personally.

That's horrible, you'd think a horse would be checked

I'm sure I've heard that certain dodgy types can actually get hold of the chip reading machines and just change the info on them anyway. Makes the whole idea pretty useless if it's an animal actually worth stealing.

It's completely pointless IMO. Better just to get the animal insured. I dunno about you guys but I've never personally taken a rep (or any other animal come to think of it) to a vet to get checked to see if it has a microchip and could be stolen.
