Thumbs up Thumbs up for Ceramics!

I was going to buy a mat for oscars 3 ft viv, just becaus eit was cheaper, luckily i was persuaded! Thinking back to it, if i had a used a mat, yes i would have saved some money, but it would not have heated oscars viv at all! I bought a ceramic full kit, wired and everything (from bev336) and oscar is in it now, with his tub i think because it was just belly heat, he wouldnt come out much, now hes out, basking on his easy peasy hot spot (a.k.a. branch higher up under the ceramic) and hes roaming about the cage, it has a wonderful gradient too! so i would say on any viv bigger than 2ft, get ceramics!!!!!!! I know its a long post, but i want to help others who may just get a mat because its cheaper.

I've never used a ceramic, would they heat the guard too much that if a snake touched it then it could still get burned?

Yeah i like CHE too. I found that initially the guard gets very hot as the viv warms up, but as temps stable and the stat kicks in the guard will eventually just stay warm. My beardies like to hang from the guard to warm their bellies!

That's excellent thanks, wasn't sure as I've never had any dealings with them. I'm gonna set one up for Vinnie's new 4'x2'x2' then and try one for myself !!!

How much extra are they to buy usually and do they use alot of electricity? This will not bother me I'm just curious !!!

See what i mean boaboytony! If you had used a mat it could have notheated him enough, and he wouldnt haev the air temp. The guard shouldnt be too close or touching the bulb. Contact bev336 (a member o here) and she will give you her prices, she also sells the plugs, heatcable,s as well as gaurds bulbs etc.
