Default White Lipped Pythons

I'm just starting to set up some vivariums now for a pair of CB05 White Lipped Pythons I'm getting in 3 weeks time - does anyone who keeps these have any hints/tips regarding what sort of viv?

Those who know me know I've been looking for CB WLP for quite some time, and have had a bit of trouble being messed around with them so I'm really looking forward to finally getting a pair.

I was planning on using 5 x 2 x 2 vivariums, I think with a CHE (guarded of course) on a dimmer stat, I'd probably rather not use a heat mat at all. I would like some lighting in there, a few sites I've read have suggested that UVB will stimulate breeding behaviour (in a few years for these guys) and also increase appetite - anyone have any experience with that? I would like to use a light in there of some sort to establish a solid daylight/night time cycle.

For those that keep them, how much do they actually climb? I will obviously be providing lots of hiding areas and foliage as I know they are usually quite a secretive/shy snake.

Have a few weeks to set it all up but would like to get it right so any hints, tips, advice or info would be appreciate, the caresheets I've found are scarse at best.

Ours are in 4x2x18 although the female does still have a bit of growing to do. Our pair do climb but are certainly not full time arboreal. Ours have a fairly minimal setup, just a few decent sized logs/branches. Kept on orchid bark and are on a 24 hour humidity cycle. We are still tweeking our setup, the male recently shed and it was very scrappy. We're playing about with humidity currently.

They do have a very large water tray, just the male elects not to use it when in blue

Our male is very, very secretive and prefers ground based hides rather than climbing/purching whereas hides for our female are a total waste of space, be it on the gorund or above ground she's always out and about.

A fantastic species

They are very very territorial animal. You shouldn't trust them at all. They act being nice at the first and when you let your guard down to him, he shows his nature. lol

Whitelipped pythons has the most fangs and their striking speed is the fastest in Pythons. The range of striking is very long, they bite at you like sliding attack. You need gloves when you take handling them.

Anyway, they are one of the most beautiful and elegant python in this planet.

i keep a pair of whitelipped pythons. They are in 36x18x18inch wide viv each other.

they don't constrict the prey. They just fling a prey at a wall and ground.
Mine are both around 4.3ft long right now and they eat 2~4mice per 10days.

They like climbing tree. They like staying on the large branch of tree. But sometimes they fall from there. lol

You should give them a shelter. They are very sensitive. If you tried to walk through infront of their viv, they hiss at you and take the ready-to-attacking mode.

Oops. The front glass should be thick or they will break it with the attacking.
Or, you should use aclyric door. They sometimes get a wound by crashing to the glass.

For keeping nippy snakes, you should provide a sliding door. They don't like to be watched and fed from the top.

Any other question, just ask me.

I will Echo what *O* has saif about stricking..

Our male never strikes but the female will strike with absolutely no provocation and she has a strike range of 2-4feet comfortably, she's only a 5ft snake! she is *very* fast and has a huge strike range. much longer than you expect, they are always one of those that continually surprise you. don't trust them an inch.

You've all answered my questions fairly thoroughly so far. I am thinking about making a viv that has more height now, perhaps 5 x 2 x 3 foot heigh.

Would everyone recommend keeping them seperate, or does anyone house them together? Obviously in a few years when I intend to breed (I think it takes 4-5 years to reach sexual maturity?) they would have to be in together for some of the time at least.

Have to get on with the building and sorting out the electrics, I will post loads of pictures in a few weeks when I get them
