things like this do piss me off though because people will think that there "expert herpatologist" knows his stuff when in reality he knows about as much as my toe nail.

not watched any, but the reason it's pausing is because of the bandwidth (i'm second guessing here).
Your player will be playing catch up whilst the high quality video streem is downloading to view. This causes the pause in most video streems. I am sad to hear about the bad advice, i thought it sounded like a really good idea.
