Anything that could be construed as wilful neglect or abuse is going to land you in court and possibly in a jail cell. Keeping DWA restricted animals without a DWA licence (for example, rattlesnakes) would also land you in some legal difficulty.
Other than that, it's primarily a matter of being sensible in housing, feeding and caring for your snake just as it would be with any other animal.

There was an article in my local newspaper this week.

Local Guardian - Thurs 15th Nov, 2007

Be careful if you buy a reptile

The number of wild-caught reptiles such as snakes imported into this country has risen to a staggering 18,400 in the last year.

The majority are sold in pet shops, with as few as one in five offering free written information to customers.

Snakes and other exotic creatures often require a temperature-controlled environment and special food - also they can grow much larger than you may expect - perhaps three metres long or more, so their housing will have to be enlarged significantly as well.

Under new laws it is now a legal requirement for all pet owners to have the knowledge and ability to look after their pets properly.

Can I urge your readers who may be considering buying an exotice pet to insist on written information about the animals needs.
