Default What would you do?

Sorry if this seems like a stupid quetion, but what is the best action to take if a powerful snake such as a boa or a python ect.. goes crazy and starts tyring to constrict you?

If plans come together i'll be getting a baby boa of something similar in the near future, which obviousy wont do any damage at that size, but i'm sure its capable of doing some serious damage when it reaches 10ft.

Ever since i saw that vid someone posted here of that burm or whatever it was eating that hippo, i've been having visions of what i'd do if i had a snake wrapped around my neck..

Any advice appreciated!

if you have a larger snae its always advisable to have an extra person for every extra 5foot of snake present..by larger i mean sort of 8/9foot plus

Don't handle it while you're alone as soon as you feel you could no longer take control by yourself if it did try anything. And that doesn't neccessarily mean waiting until it's fully grown, never underestimate a snake and never take chances you don't have to in regards to your own safety and you should in theory be fine.

Also just because they can do some serious damage, doesn't mean they will, aslong as they feel generally safe and not threatened by you and you give it the respect at that size it deserves then there should be very little reason for you to be wrapped head to toe in snake lol.

If the worst comes to the worst and you're on your own-try to takethe snaes tail and bend it over its back-this disabls the constricting action. However as you can imagine it's much easier said than done!

I understand that grabbing the tail and unwinding it or getting someone to do this. the tail is what they use to anchor themselves to get a good grip.

BTW I saw a programme on animal planet of this very stupid man who owned a large reticulated python. He went into it's cage to change the light bulb (no jokes of how many men does it take....) He threw a towel over the retics head and then turned his back to do the maintenance. the Python easily pushed aside the towel, bit him and quickly coiled around him. the rest you can imagine. fortunately the snake let go when the man's heart had stopped beating and someone got to him in time to get him to hospital, so he survived. He might easily have been killed. Sorry to go on, but take two people in as suggested by others on this forum. Alwys respect the snake!!!!!

If things go really wrong and you can't get the snake into a bath of cold water or you can't reach the vinegar/alcohol then you need to know what to do. For me, when I kept the Burms and Anacondas, I used to have a sheathed knife on my belt. Fortunately I've never had anything that was really agressive.
