It's not just you Dan,I have wanted 100 flower rats for the longest time, but the price coupled with the fact the only 4 people I know who have tried keeping them have ended up with dead £500 snakes has kept me at bay.

The price is nothing, you can pick them up for £25 if you know where to look. I've still spent far more than £500 on them though, and if it were only £500 and a couple of animals i wouldn't mind. That isn't the case though so i do mind

Surely if these snakes are dying in your care then they are not really for captive collections?.

I finding my little BRB tough, cos he won't eat. I can deal with non feeding (fasting) adults, eat when you want, not gonna hurt... but tiny snakes that should be eating and growing stress me out!

And I have plans to breed tri color hognoses that are known difficult to get started probably not the best of plans!

I'll never learn, it's like owning 2 stroke motorbikes all over again!

Green vine snakes. I tried everything i could think of but couldn't get them established. I passed them onto someone else to try in the end. He failed too and sadly they died They're the only species I've failed so far (out of 24 species). I'll leave 'em be i think.

I can't answer that with a simple answer.

For me, until i can figure out what i am doing wrong then no they aren't suitable at all. Especially the moellendorfs.

For others however they are considerably better. There are people out there that do keep moellendorfs succesfully and breed from them with relative frequency. For these people then yes, they are fine as captives. The Pseudoxenodon are different because they are a rare species in the hobby, i've probably had more of these than other people so that doesn't mean that like the moellendorfs there isn't someone out there that is capable of keeping them.

In short, for me they are less than suitable, for others they are fine.
