People are just too impatient to start making money.

captivecaveman and barrym

I was just using that phrase as an example, i'm not saying it's the sellers fault.

what I am saying is I know there are MANY users on here who do just that, buy something with no intention of following QT. buy with the intention of breeding that snake right away.

I'm not saying that the sellers are wrong for saying "will breed now" etc i'm saying that i'm amazed by the amount of people that think it's ok to do exactly that.

Like Christy said the illnesses are out there, it can happen, to me it's just not worth it. I'm shocked by the number of people who are totally ok with taking the risk.

How many adverts do you see..

"will breed for you this season"

or similar..

Endless conversations with people about the (spider/pastel,new female etc etc) they are getting and how it's going to breed for them this year...

QUARENTEEN PEOPLE!!

Do you *really* want to be the kind of "breeder" who doesn't QT, one major problem in your collection (or even minor) and it's game over, people won't buy from you anymore.

do you really want to sell sub standard snakes that are a potential heath risk to your collection and other people collections?

I know of many members on this forum who are still buying animals now with the intention to breed them "this season".

Really?

How will that be possible given that you shouldn't be letting them anywhere near your snakes for at least 3-6 months?

It's amazing how many threads make me think "i'll never buy from you".

The amount of people who give this no consideration at all baffles me.

To those people I will say this:

you only need to break a reputation once. You generally get no second chances.

Practices like this WILL cause you problems one day. It shows a complete lack of concern for your animals welfare, why bother (as most people do) to try and get husbandry etc correct if you are just going to throw in a snake you know nothing about, a snake that could have one of hundreds of problems that you CANT see.

Sorry and rant over.

Hi all

I agree with you Mason, but some people see money only and that is what they are bothered about nothing else.

My only point on quarentine procedures 3 to 6 months some problems can take longer than this to show. even 12 months on some things, and longer if they are carriers.

I think the only thing is be carefull who you buy off, and physically to look and touch the said snake and form your own opinion if not happy don't buy use your head, not your heart or impulse.

approx 8 weeks.

we were very confident in the seller.

We have a QT room for those that we are not. Everything else get 4-6 months min.

there are a few keepers I know well enough to trust, for anyone else it's QT.

yeah, i think that that will happen, no matter what people are told, i thought you were having a go at sellers, as i myself would buy or sell with the comment of "would breed.....", but that was/is meant as with quarentine, but then i wouldn't buy or sell at this time of year purely cause i'd want to either keep and breed, or if i was buying, buy at a time that gives me enough time to feed-up, brumate etc

Thats the exact same as the situation I posted up asking about.

Would you class your snakes still at risk though, as you havent observed the full quarantine period you would with other snakes, because to a buyer of your snake who may not know you or the breeder/seller you got the snake/s from it may not matter because they don't have the same relationship with the breeder/seller as you do.

Which is why I asked

Amen! Far too often I see things like this, and frankly I think it's terrible, I keep all new purchases in a different room and gradually introduce them to the main collection after 3 months.

If they miss breeding season then so be it, it will come back round as quick as you can say breeding season.

Would you link "will breed for you this season" with people being in it for the money?
