I've just had to take my rather stroppy male boa to the vets for a check up and we went armed with a pair of heavy duty golves each.he's never bitten but didn't wana take that chance he's fine once you've got him but it's the actual pick up he is edgey about, as long as you move slowly dont catch him off gaurd and gently stroke him first he's fine.

Had plenty of snappy small snakes but the one who go me testing my skills is my very pretty but nasty female boa, she is just under 9ft. I tried hooks put they are just not for me, last time I used one on her she managed to somehow turn and bite me in the leg. Still to this day cant figure out how she managed to turn round and stretch so far. So now I have thick gloves that go nearly to the elbow and I just go for it keeping her head close to or on the floor and facing away from me. She never tries to wrap just bite and always goes for lower legs or forearms. She has slowly started to calm down put she came to me when she was 5 years old and I think her last owner used hooks so thats why she kicks up such a fuss whenever i tried to use them. But I love her anyway even if she hates me.

I must apoligise for the SPAM in the post above this one. I am doing my level best to fight it (With my limited tools). I wouldn't go near them with a barge pole considering the tactics they are using.

I've found that the most aggresive i have will be my tai beauty.
He literally makes it his ambition to TRY to get me.
It also depends on the day i think as well as some day's he's as good as gold
but others he has far too much opinion...

So what do you do with a BCI that thinks everything entering her tank is food? As soon as it open she's out in the strike position. The last few weeks she's been very food orientated. Currently on a large rat weaner every 7 days.

She use to be good as gold, could even stroke her head without even a flicker of movement. She isn't all that big (3 footish and 11 months old), could just take the tag, but my instant reaction is to move my hand...Once out she is fine, maybe there is something to not feeding in the viv after all?
