i wud put it inside but then lay some thing like a piece of perspex over it then seel the edges to avoid burns

i cant see the heat goin through the wood if u put it on the outside, just drill a little whole in the bk of the viv un wire the plug then feed the wire through re wire the plug n plug it into ur stat =]

job done

edit= did u mean the heat go thru the wood or the actual mat?

I used a spare piece of kitchen lino in the bottom of the viv and sealed it with silicone. Temps are up and everything seems fine. Gave it 48 hours with heat to dry out with the doors off.

Cheers

Have you already bought the heatmat and thermostat? If not you may want to consider using a cermaic lamp instead. Some people on here prefer mats (fair enough), but if I were you and buying the whole setup from scratch, I would definitely use a ceramic bulb.

I had difficulties reaching and maintaining temps with mats, and once I switched to ceramic, found life got a whole lot simpler.

Just my opinion.
