Default Advice please, new to Snakes, but not reptiles.. thanks.

my partner has allowed me to have a snake!!!....
AT LAST!!

She hates them, and ive always wanted one, and now she has a new cxar i can get a snake aslong as it does not grow more than 4ft...

so.. what is avalible, i had always been a corn fan untill i read this forum.. like a million times...haha

i would like one that would be happy to live a quiet normall, natural life, but handable, with a nice temper..
i have heard "milk/ King" snakes are cool also, but ive always been a "boa" fan, could anyone show me a breed that is simular to that of a boa, or something as attractive?..

ive always wanted one, but they do grow larger than im allowed...haha

any advice would be much aprricated, like i said ive rescued beared dragons, leo, iggy's etc,, for years now, but snakles were a NO NO!..

but the lid has been lifted!..( for a £16,9995 audi TT)...haha

oh well!...lol
Tom.

if you like boas how about hogg island boas, or costa rican boas, or crawl cay boas, all dwarf species, there is also sand boas, and rosy boas,

milks are nice, i prefer the honduran milks as they seem less shy and get slightly bigger,

kings can be a bit more nippy as babies and can be a bit more territoreal, and food orientated but tame down well

but in the end go with what you like

i really like corns and have 4 trios now, they come in so many different colour morphs so i think they are the perfect snake, but choose what you like

I'd say 5-6ft is a more realistic length which gives you:

Royal Pythons
El Salvador Boas
Hogg Island Boas
Ringed Pythons
Spotted Pythons
Corn snakes
King snakes
Rat snakes
Milk snakes

On boas though, you can get dwarf pastel ones, i have a pair i bought in 2005 who are just around 3.5ft i'd say compared to a surinam boa who is same age but 7.5ft lol

i'd add womas to the list, as they get between that size and are great snakes, also the ones i've previously mentioned and also childrens pythons,

i have looked these up, not keen on the rosy/sand boas as they dont "seem2 to look like boas, there is somthing about them i love, the shape of there head/nose et c, is just stunning!

to stop me from having a bigger snake im only allowed a 3ftx15x15 viv..(that i have new!).. alreadt, so i cant buy anothing big..

looked at the "childrens boas" nice coloures!
but i 3want something tame, and easy going, like i say, i respect the reptiles ALOT as i have kept them for years, but taking on a new species is always scary!...lol

I would say go and see as many different snakes as poss if you have good rep shops nearby. You will fall in love with a particular one and know it is "the one". Enjoy your research, it is great , Kat

do you meen childrens pythons, as they are nice, and can tame very well,
if you like boas, i'd go for a crawl cay boa, they stay quite small and will be happy in a 3ft viv

I agree, have a look around at 'real life' snakes and see what most takes your fancy. Where abouts in kent are you - I could reccomend a few shops.

sorry for the delayed reply, has to sort out something..
im from Cuxton/ Rochester..
i like the look of the leopard boa's very much!
i would love to meet someone from my area if you are local to view one, and see, my local "spectacular" has snakes but VERY moody and hiss even if you look at them...lol

as for the crawl cay boa's i also like alot, are females smaller?..
also, i have read a care sheet for them, and feel i can undertsand there needs, what colours are avalible, and i also like the idea of being lighter at night, and changing darker during the day, that would be beautifull!

sorry, but ive always been snake mad, and i am still amazed im allowed one..lol
i think its the whole "respect" and movement side of snakes i adore, and i always felt its a mutural thing with them..
thanks guys..
il keep in touch, as im off reaserching.. but please keep up the replys if anything else comes to mind..
Tom
