Nice looking pair mate. Looks like a fairly newly matured female given the look of her abdomen, nice and swollen with fresh Ova
The pic you've got shows them getting down and dirty so to speak. The little spherical white thing is a Spermatophore, the male passes it to the female and she'll keep it for a day or two then drop it to the floor. Shortly after, you're gonna be getting lotsa little eggs, and then lotsa little Mcleays !!! EDI: Forgot to mention, the male is the one on top

![]() I am just so suprised we are breeding after such a short space of time. I was expecting numerous shedings if that's the right term. She has clearly developed a lot since Xmas and must have eaten her skin when she shed. Is he the correct size?

Yeah, they're fully grown. The males don't get their wings till after their final shed, and the females don't show their wing buds till then either. Extat's usually will eat their skins after shedding, sometimes you can find an odd leg or two that they miss. Mine were breeding age inside six months, but it really depends on the temps you keep them at, warmer they are the faster they grow!
FWIW, the males usually mature long before the females, you didn't mention if that was the case here.

He's looked roughly the same since we got him although the last shed produced his wings. It's easy to miss a shed happening as they are in a poorly lit corner of the house. She has made some dramatic changes.
So we just need to spot the eggs appearing. What are we looking for. I would hate to throw them out with the droppings.

If she's young, keep it that way
He will spend an awful lot of time on her back tho, even when not mating. Don't worry about spotting the eggs, they're pretty big and shiny, nothing like the frass.

if they are in a glass tank then the sound of ova pinging around is one you will hear a lot. they kind of fire out the eggs with a quick flick of the tail. they can send em quite a few feet in distance . the ova are marbled balls with a lump on (like a tiny beige blackcurrant)

Thanks for all the advice. My youngest daughter is 7 and she is the true owner of the insects. She still believes in Santa especially after he met the challenge of bringing stick insects for xmas.
I keep scanning for eggs but nothing so far. It sounds like they can't be missed. What do we do when she lays? Regards
