I think that is a nursary web spider. It's hard for me to tell, as I don't get them up by me so i'm not that familiar with them. I've had a couple in with crickets however.

If it was a raft spider, you are not really supposed to own them as they are very endangered (unless of course, you have suddenly found a new breeding population, in which case you would be very popular with arachnologists).

thanks
and no it isn't eating the woodlice, that one just happened to be there
it mostly eats the mealworm

i dont think its a raft spider as it was found in a house that hasn't any water features nearby

I think its a nusery web spider. Dolomedes or raft spiders are limited to a few locations in this country.Glad someone else finds our Brtish sp as interesting as those abroad! Send your pic to the British Arachnological Society they wii I.D it 100%. Always found them most helpfull.

funny thing is i've never liked spiders, i used to be petrified of them, the garden spiders were the worst, maybe its something deep down in the ancestrial subconscious that they are a preditor, yadda yadda yadda
the big furry ones i'm fine with, they are just like fluffy kittens with eight legs

for my vivs i ony really want spiders that don't use a web for catching prey, one cos its a bit of a cheat lol and it makes a mess around the viv

thanks for the ident guys

i cant wait till it stops being so frigging cold so i can go out and find some more , i think thats part of the fun of having a insect viv, you get to go and catch stuff rather than buy it in
with the big one i probably will buy more intreasting stuff

till recently i never took much notice of different uk spiders they were just something to avoid (big wuss)
now i want to find a Micrommata virescens a green fecker thats also a non web hunter
