Default Mantids first feed

Ok fed the mantids for the first time today, could only get hold of maggots though and was worried the mantids couldn't take them down. Anyway put one in just smaller than the mantid and i was actually surprised with the force it attacked the grub and wrestled it to the floor, took a chunk out and dived back to the top of the pot. It didn't kill it this time but theirs two puncture holes in the grub. Gona keep an eye on them to make sure its fine feeding. Quite wierd. :S

You'd be surprised at what they can cope with. They're amazing creatures.

Already am, none have succeeded in taking one down just yet but its only been in for 5 mins. They seem to be taking shots at it, licking their arms then going in for another strike. I read that they are capable of taking down pray bigger than them which is the only reason i am trying them on something the same size, if it was a spider i wouldn't do it. They are coping with it really well!

Next try Waxmoths with pre-sub-adult Pseudoreobotra Ocellata(about 1-2cm long). They take them down in seconds and make it seem so easy lol. What instar are your mantids? Chinese yeah?
