I'd say you need better pics of all of the abdomen segments underneath.

Yeh you need better pics where you can count all the segments of the underneath of the abdomen.

I counted 8 on both mantids, making them both male to me.

My guess Mantis 1 = female, mantis two = male. If i'm right keep mantis two about slower than one as you'll be in the same situation as Macro Junkie one old adult male and one sub adult female with a few weeks til her next shed.

well mantis ones is already one moult a head of mantis two i also have another but its only just moulted into l2 so ive a bit of waiting to do b4 i see what it is

I have to agree with matt, can't be sure from those pics but yeh 1=female 2=male , i will have to get a better camera so i can check mine, my bifocals just don't cut it
