Default Hmm, Dare I attempt to get over my Arachnophobia?

Well I've enquired over in the Amphib section and now I'm here..

I will have a spare 30x30x30 Exo Terra in the coming months.

I'm totally and utterly afraid of spiders.. house spiders.. There's something about the fact that they're running round my house. I think I could cope with an enclosed T though. Being in a viv, no way to escape doesn't frighten me. They are actually quite stunning, some of them.

Now I really like GBB's but I don't know anything about them, whether they'd be a good first T at all? Or even if they'd be ok in the 30 cube exo terra.
I'd also like to be able to see the T occasionally.. so not one that hides away all the time. And I wouldn't wanna handle it, although most people don't reccomend you do anyway so that's good lol.

I don't really want a chile rose or mexi red knee.. but something that looks pretty, hence me liking green bottle blue's.

So..
Something to fit in a 30x30x30,
Something pretty,
Something that wont hide ALL the tme.

Any help? Thanks

If it doesnt have to be a spider, an active mantis would enjoy a home of that size. Madagascan Marble Mantis are very active, and enjoy walking along the floors of tanks aswell as the roofs.

If its in the tank, it doesnt matter what T you get
I would advise Brachypelma sp, not neccessarily a Red knee, but what other spider could you call rodney though
anywho, i dont say that for any other reason than they make awesome display spiders and are very pretty. Cute if you like!
Docile, slow, Hardy spiders that get a decent size. Best to buy an adult or sub adult though as they can take bloody YEARS to amture.. 5years and counting on my MALE! lol its a sure male at that too, lol

Oh yeah, I wouldnt get a sling, they're far too delicate and a slight hint of me not being able to find it would mean its escaped and I'd freak right out lol..
Would a GBB not be suitable? As I really do keep going back to pics of them and they look very very nice..

You cant go wrong with a GBB, they are fairly hardy as well, being able to tolerate a wider temperature scale then a lot of other spiders, plus they are absolutely stunning!

Although my best display spider has to be my Brzillian White Knee (acanthoscurria Geniculata), its gorgeous to look at, always on display and gets to a decent size at a fairly good growth rate.

GBB would be fine. An adult female would go nicely in one of them and you'd have a tank ful of web in no time

The other thing that's scaring me is.. I dont want to get one thorugh the post after my ordeal with getting 200 cockroaches through the post and they weren't in the original box they were meant to stay in so were crawling round.. Cue me in tears and shaking!
So I'd have to find one round here and take my viv to it LOL..

my female GBB spends alot of time on display, they make amazaing enclosurs too.
Heavy webbers, and yes theyr very hardy too, forget to feed em or give em water and they wont have a problems, unless you have like a years memory lapse

I liked this webbing but if you think about the enclosre before occupying it, then you could get some REALLY good ideas for how the webbing could turn out.

personally i recon placing a cork tube with multiple holes on the side, poking out different directions, placed vertically.
I guess the spdier would use the tube to hide, but make multiple webbed platforms from each of the holes to the sides of the enclosure. Or a spooky forest made with dead bonsai trees... it would web over it and it would look spooky but awesome! just shooting some ideas off thats one i wanna do for sure, would make some awesome macro photographs

Unpacking a spid is easy Take lid off tub, use tweezers to get tissue out, tub inside viv and leave spider to come out on its own. Job done.

If it wasn't packed right in the first place, it might crawl out and eat me Ok, not eat me.. but my brain at the time will tell me it's gonna do that lol.

C_Strike, wow.. alot of web going on there, how long did that take to get to that? And when it comes to feeding, how on earth can you see anything in the viv lol, the T could easily creep out while the doors are open couldn't it? Or am I being paranoid again..
