Although I do not own either, I would be interested to know, from those ITK, what they would consider to be the most dangerous to keep, as a pet!
Thoughts..? PS - Does anyone else agree that Trap Door Spiders are one of those species that are interesting to watch, on the Animal Planet, in their natural habitat, when the crew have the technology and patience to film it, rather than keeping them as pets, were they are rarely seen, therefore, somewhat pointless, even as an exhibit..? |

Is it possible that they could live in each others terrain then, even were it introduced accidentally, the way that many species are, to parts of the world...

Well the brown recluse is a bit more nomadic, but prefering to stay within dark confines, generally a house or something..
The Atrax is from new South Wales, they live in sandy clay, or something that retains moisture well. They seem to prefer to have the burrows in forested areas, cool & moist. Dont think the climates would match tbh, but saying taht the Fw will spend its time in the burrow and have its own micro-climate so top climate is reletively irrelevant as long as the funnels climate can be maintained . Only one way to know though. Theyr both fascinating spiders, but personally id prefer to start with the Atrax. but thats due to my previous xp with Macrothele sp. Anythings possible. UK has a population of Bombina bombina in the wild, as well as hundreds of other species. BTW, Black widows are forever finding UKs climate more hospitable. Iv seen a definate confirmed L mactans escape from a Motorbike racing exhaust package. Oh many of the most noteable spiders in UK are introduced, as well as scorps. Best example of messed up eco-system is Florida, nowhere else on earth have people been so careless, reckless and down right stupid. Most of floridas native animal populace has been killed and taken over by released pets including Burm pythons and other big snakes

Don't you think, in the main, it is best that there is no trade, demand, for some of these spiders, given not only their lethality, but also the welfare of the spider itself..?
I realise there is a counter conservation arguement, however, imo, there are some species that should not become pets, with the exception of them being kept for public display, maybe..? |
