Default False Black Widows

Anybody know how long these live ? Just seen some juveniles for sale on Virginia Cheeseman's site. Google hasn't helped. I'm assuming that like most true spiders, the upper limit is probably 2-3 years. Just wondered if anybody has kept them.

Mine usually seem to last a few months and die off. Got a big one at the mo so I'm going to try it on different foods as the last two have been given black crickets :P

a few months then die off? iv had groups for years.. i only house them from spring to autumn, the rest of the time theyr free roaming our property and house. I just pick up a few of the younger ones each spring.

I currently have 3 (Accidently left one female on the windowledge....she cooked )

My female is guarding a sac at the moment. Its her first so many to come, i mated this girl.
2x Steatoda grossa,
1x Steatoda sp.

DONT BUY EM!!!!! lol thats like buying a woodlouse, you can find em easily enough!

I will upload some pics soon as i can.

oh Black crickets/ crickets are the best you can feed em in captivity, theyr ravenous spiders taht will eat and eat and eat. Very delicate fangs, but they do gorge themselves. They do not make a blous, but simply bite the cricket in the intersegmental tissues and drain the body fluids from there leaving a hollow cast of the former cricket, lol

slight anatomical differences, oh not much really, lol the fact if your bitten ones much worse? lol
thers over 200 species of Steatoda, and probably as many Laterodectus sp.
These are falsies because they do so well in UK. Laterodectus sp. can live in UK, but ofcourse its much more harsh for them and only one or two will survive a cold spell. With UK climate changing, Laterodectus are finding it much easier to live in UK. Just need a bigger population, and the maybe male meets female, then female produces her sac... lol hope not 4 british fauna, but interesting still

I have had one for 6 months or so ..... seems to be doing well , I keep it in the same setup that you would a true black widow, they make amazing webs if you just have a ' Y ' shaped stick in there ....

DO NOT BUY THEM, look in your garage (thats where mine was found), somewhere dark .. LOL

Hope that helps ....
