Yeh but tissue and cotton wool do it like mad. They are designed to be biodegradable.

Okay, I don't keep spiders (my girlfriend seriously doesn't like 'em... although there was a fantastic one in the lounge the other week that I would've kept, but, she insisted that if I was to release it instead of kill, then it would have to be at the farthest point of the garden!)...

Anyway, back to it. I don't buy the gel, I buy Lucky Reptile Aqua Crystals, and weigh out 2g of them in a pint glass, and then fill it with boiling water. It works out cheaper and it's lighter in the post too! I use it for my livefood, and also my mourning geckos...

Thanks for the advice people... think i'll just let it drink the moisture from the sides of the tub for now, until its big enough not to drown anyway. Cheers

Out of interest, do you use hot water when making it up or cold?

Personally iv never felt a need to use the gel, but i dont breed my crickets.. i hate the littleing ba fing things. lol
i buy a box, and spend the next 10 mins feeding them all to my collection.
2 centipedes both approx 6inch have been munched by a cricket, years ago i lost a Cyrio 'blue' sling to one too taht was when a 2cm sling cost £60.
Live and learn though. Havent lost any in ages, always crush the crickets head before putting the crickets with slings. I keep the pot moist, but not damp, simply using the crikets to hydrate the slings. If they want to drink, i think it aint gonna be bad if they also get some nutrients at the same time too.
Spiders dont have any taste really, they would drink dirty and stagnant water as readily as clean, so i dont think its a problem to not supply them with a bowl, and to rely on the food. Though ofcourse situations change whenspiders under the weather

That isnt strictly true; spiders can taste quite well, probably better than you or I (ok, so they dont have umami/salt/sour etc tastebuds, but then we also dont taste with our feet either). Spiders wont eat distasteful animals such as woodlice that often, so water isnt that different. From how much I see my T drink, a water dish seems hardly neccesary.

I spray all my slings once a week, no water bowl is provided.

I have 35 adult T's. They all have large water bowls that are kept ultra clean with the water completely replaced every other day.

No dampness, no mould, no problems.
