If you can get a photo from the side of the fly, it would be easier to identify if its a phorid - they hava a characteristic bump on their backs that makes it easier to identify them.

At present, I cant tell - it almost looks like one of the species of potter wasps rather than a scuttle fly, but its hard to see.

Its not a phorid fly, its far too big and lacks general look, and hump of such flies.

Its size, and the iridescent eyes make me wonder if its not a type of cleg fly (Haematopota spp.). They will be active this time of year and are likely attracted to any damp vivs you have (i.e tropical ones).

It's a Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens). Have you been feeding CalciGrubs? The flies are harmless and your animals will probably enjoy eating them.

Seeing that picture now, I agree that its likely a black soldier fly.

The iridescence on the eyes is similar to the cleg fly (alas, I only have field guides to go by at uni, my decent insect "atlas" is at home).
