Default uv light and scorpions

Hi guys

Im totaly new to the keeping of scorpions (kept various T's and other inverts over the years) but got some 'Pandinus Imperator' off Oli - Thanks matey

Anyway, bought a black uv bulb (15w) and rewired my setup so the origional on/off switch built in to the tank lid worked with a baynet fitting then turned on - woooooooooohoooooooooooo ............. bright green glowing scorpions!!

They look fantastic and the temp and humidity if perfectly maintained, however, am i doing the scorpions any harm?

I have googled this, bad i know, and cant find a definitive answer so any help would be greatly appriciated

I wouldnt leave it on constant, iv heard about it causing problems... but nothing conclusive, only keepers assumtions and reports.
Best not to take the risk, but keep it so you can turn it on when you want, i wouldnt leave it on too long either.

Sayingthat, iv never done it and have no experience with it.. just heard enough to mean that i would only put it on for short periods, and only infrequently

Its a difficult one for sure

Like i said, researched it online (for hours as didnt want to put my new found friends (lol) in any harm) and everybody has there own take on the subject!

It would appear that most universities in america (please dont ask for links as not saved in browser) state that there is no conclusive results showing harm and that uv light has been proved as part of a necessary supliment for scorpions (something to do with the chemicals they leave in substrate) although they require no light - which posses the question, if its necessary, and they dont need light, why and how is it necessary?

Anyway, everybody seems to have their 10 cents worth and eventualy it becomes confusing!

All i know at this point, is that the temp and humidity is spot on with the uv on constant (has been for for 2 hours) and the scorpions are out and about like they their non the wiser.

Just agonising not knowing what if any damage I may be causing!

In conclusion, if uv is bad for scorpions, the logic would dictate that they would never venture out in to natural light due to possible damage/harm - but they do!!

CONFUSED MYSELF AGAIN!! LOL

lol

Dogs eat cow shite though if they have a vitamin or mineral deficiency - ie, there is a need for them to do so as its a natural source ( discusting though!)

Which goes back to the ' uv is a necessaty' point!

I guess im going to just have to be a pioneer lol

If they die (they better not do lol), I shall have my answer!
