Default VERY odd question!!!

ok so, heres the story....

my mam comes running to me today, telling me about her friend from work....
over the last week or so, shes noticed a spider in her back garden, thats built itself a little home..... but anyway, shes concerned as she says "it doesnt look like a normal spider" and shes asked me to find out what it is.... now i dunno much atall about spiders!!! but anyway.... ive spent the last like half hour googling with no luck....

so the only things shes said to me is that this spider, will wait for pray to get caught in its web and then it goes and gets the pray and carries it underground....

nothing about its size/colour or anything!!!

so by this, can any of you say if it would be a normal native spider or not?? like is the cunsomption of food underground a normal thing?? and im guessing its pretty big aswell if shes noticed it??

sorry this is so daft.... i promised to try help though!!

thank you to anyone who can help!!

There are tarantulas that hit 4 inchs maximum. Would need to get a pic but there are many spiders that follow the same behaviour including native ones.
