You can use a variety of plants if you wish.
Ive had success with date palms, bromeliads and ferns which thrive in low(ish) light levels and higher humidity. Just avoid using a heat mat under the tank as it tends to kill the roots. Use a chemical free compost - I would suggest coir block, but it can be a nightmare to get the moisture in the middle ground using it. It always seems to go bone dry or sodden :/ You might want to try researching some species of tropical grasses or grass like ferns. Something that responds well to pruning might do well as it'll be limited by the size of the tank. Overall, live plants can be a hassle, but IMO they are worth the extra effort.
