Default Care/Humidity Question

I have just ordered a T.Blondi and it should be arriving next week.

I am going to set up the tank over the weekend to make sure its all spot on before the new arrival.

However, i know blondi's need high humidity so was hoping for some tips on how you all keep the humidity high without needing to drench the substrate and leaving the spider to have to learn to swim!!

What substrate is the best, how often to spray etc etc?

I do use Eco-Earth for my b.vagans and manage to keep the humidity right with a misting every few days...however, the blondi requires much higher humidity.

Also, any other tips or care info would be grately appreciated. I know there are lots of care sheets on google etc but they often differ so was hoping for some 'personal experience' advice.

Thanks guys n gals.
Gary.

Big enclosures fit more substrate in.. ensure they have a decent depth of substrate, in the wild they occupy dug outs udner trees and things, more often than not its on a slight embankment, you can replicte that easy enough. Humdity doesnt have to be drenching wet, just ensure you have no condensation build up, and on the otherside, ensure its not bone dry and light coloured.
dont spray, its pointless with a big tank, pour some water down a designated side of the tank and pour some over the substrate.
They will take to a hide, if you supply one but equally if you dont intend to breed em, they dont neccessarily need a hide... they certainly wont dig one though so bare that in mind.
they will eat as much as you throw at them too. try not to overfeed them as theyr reputed to have bad molts, they can be fat, but excessively fat is considered one factor for bad molts
Cant beat them though, theyr so cute

I will put a hide in there, i think i will half bury a plant pot into a bit of a slope...no intention of breeding mind, a Blondi might be a bit of a jump in the deep end as far as breeding goes

I've read 6"+ for substrate so will make sure ive got around that mark so that shud keep plenty of moisture as well...good tip for the pooring of the water and mainly using a designated side mind, thanks for that.

As far as substrate goes is the Eco-Earth considered suitable or will something else hold the moisture better?

This is mine, the moss on the top of the substrate furthur seals moisture in the substrate, making it much more stable

Nice set ups there...love the name 'Abusive' as well HAHA wasn't that the one i read with the egg sack?

Trip to the local pet shop me thinks then to invest in some of that moss, ive heard of people using that for all sorts on animals to keep the humidity up, im sure i saw some last week down there as well.

I think ive pretty much got it all sussed now then, the high humidity was my main concern but think i should be alright now if i put your ideas into practice.

...but if anyone has any other little tips or tricks for them then im all ears (or eyes i suppose).

Yeh, Abusives got the sac, i called her that becuase of how hissy she used to be.. trying to move her for any reason just resulted in a her pinned down to the floor, with front legs up, hissing, you simply couldnt push her, lol too stuck down and resiliant, lol

I collected the moss myself at first, but then found out its protected. the stuff in the petshops is nice, becuase its still got some green in it. The flowershop crap is bloomin horrid thou, lost all colour, and jsut really weak.
Petshop moss is expensive though:/
Ofcourse any kind of problem, question isseu with these guys feel free to fire away, i know some about them, in the process of chasing up journals and articles about them
