Default Popularity...?

In terms of popularity, it would not surprise me if T's were the invert kept, in the UK.

Don't get me wrong, they are interesting.

I have some myself.

But often they either burrow away or only come out when dark, many people do not see them feed sometimes.

Compare that to say a Mantis which is alert to food any time of the day, as are most species of scorps, esp desert species.

Then there are the tiger beetles, I have three of those, about 2.5 inches long, and with large jaws. They anhiliate their prey!

Like I say, T's are interesting, but given the diverse range of inverts, those that are more likely to be seen doing their thing, I wonder if they 'warrant' top spot..

gtfo.

lol i see what you mean, but t's are ro pretty, and they differ in behaviour/"personality" enormously from one species to the next (as well as each individual)

that and theyre cheap and generally easy to keep XD

gtfo??

Does that mean what i think it means?! as 'get the beep beep'

Agree though that the T's were the least active of all. Then again i didn't buy them so they could entertain me, they were bought out of sheer fascination for the species! If i wanted entertaining i would by a flea circus!!....anyone have any highly trained ones for sale?

We got ours because i was afraid of them, and theyre interesting to watch, easy to look after and i probably will end up with many more.
I wouldnt mind some mantids but beetles and bugs creep me out. They really are creepy crawlies. I hate their legs!

Snap, spiders give me the heebies, yet i bought my friend one from the spidershop. It was delivered to my address so i was responsible for housing it until his b/d two days later. If memory serves me correctly it was a blue fang (not up on the latin names). I was fascinated while watching it spin webbing around its new home.Thats when i decided, hey, these guys may creep me but wow, they are fascinating!

How do you feel about people keeping things like Orb Spiders?

In the wild their webs can measure two feet across, but when kept as 'pets', they are often not afforded such space to create the same sized web, in all it's glory.

Not a fan myself.

Although everyone here knows that I strive where possible to achieve natural-esque environments ... Orb weavers just seem a step too far. Then again, I don't really understand the fascination with keeping UK native spiders either. I admit I keep UK harvestmen in the lab, but thats because my dissertation demands so for identification purposes. I much prefer to see them out and about in the wild.

To the original question, I think T's are top because they are easy and quite docile in many forms. They are also generally BIG and not as cryptic as many other arachnids (such as vinegaroons...)
