Default praying mantis?

hi all, now i am from the lizard n amphib sections, never had an invert. but im gonna be getting my salamanders a new viv so wil have spare a 45x45x45 exo terra. i dont want the commitment of another lizard or amphib, so im thinking of getting summit like a huge praying mantis. i seen one on deadly dozen (nature documentary) the other day and it was so cool. i breed crix, roaches and waxies so i want summit that wil eat them, and summit cool to watch, but maybe not a huge responsibility. you think a mantis would be good? or summit similar if any1 has any suggestions, but please dont say tarrantula or scorpion, as i really dont want either.

any help would be great, thanks

1 of the giant species of mantis would be ideal for that exo. Most Hierodula sp and Sphodromantis sp are very hardy, living at room temperature, get to a fair size 3-4" plus and will eat pretty much anything they can overpower.

thanks chris, can u tell me what kind to get tho? there is a million kinds, i need a big one that will be good in my exo terra, i will put lots of plants n stuff in, n feed it crix n locusts n roaches n flies etc etc. i would rather have 1 or 2 huge ones than lofs of small ones. whats the bigest kind u can get? like not the biggest ever, but biggest u can actually easily buy as pets?

Mine are chinese mantids and seem to be rock solid choice, hardy easy to keep and seem to eat anything !!!

Just get one, they,re infamously cannibalistic(there are exceptions though), theyre real easy to keep, and cool. I never used to over complicate my setups with lots of plants etc. though, as theyre ambush predators and it would be a bit harder for them to find their food. Find a good care sheet, and look on the classifieds, theres usually loads in there
