Hi guys,
Bit of a strange one this and a bit gross, lying in bed last night and noticed what looked like a large housefly buzzing in the room. i was ordered to destroy the aformentioned creature and this was done with stealth, skill and a whipping from a tshirt. However when i picked up the remains to flush away i noticed movement from the little carcas and emerging from inside were little maggots. I was always under the impression that flies laid eggs and i have been looking on the net and could not find a reference to a single UK fly that has live young. It has now got me baffled anyone know of any UK flys that deposit maggots not eggs????? Told you it was a bit gross and weird !!!! simon

Excellent someone else has seen this ! i do not think they were parasites as they looked just iek a maggot and i would guess if the fly had the volume of parasites in that came out of the damm thing it would be dead already. i can only think that the womb or internal storage area was ruptured when squished ( technical term) and they made a bid for freedom .

They were definitly alive?
Sometimes insect internal organs look surprsingly similar to that, although they could have been actual maggots, in which case they were likely to be parasites. Many insects are infected with nematodes etc that will sense when a host dies and migrate out of the carcass en masse. I dont think that any eggs it might have had inside her would have young developed enough to be considered functional. (it could also have been a He in which case this is moot anyway unless you sexed it )
