Default mantids eating

Will mantids stop eating when they are full or will they eat till they burst?

they will stop when they are full but often take food, eat some of it then drop it so i find it best to to feed them when they are full as i have to clean up a lot more. they do look like they are fit to burst when full. especially a pregnant female

Mantids can be seriously prone to obesity and it can kill them, its important to make sure they dont overfeed, it might possibly be Dependant on species.

I don't agree with most of soozthecat's comment. Mantids will know when to stop feeding. But if you are not about to introduce the female to the male or feeding a gravid female, then it is best not to feed them until they are refusing food as it can be hard for them to wander about and stuff when they are fat.

Some mantids will overfeed and regurgitate the food as brown goo!

they will stop feeding when there very fat...over feeding on crickets can cause death so be careful.i normally over feed mine but im sensible about it ie soon as i see there fat i give em a couple days til i feed again.iv lost 2 females to over feeding them on crickets

when i over fed my jade mantis she stoped eating..the next few days all she was drinking was water..and loads of it!drinking every time i misted thre cage which is very rare//1 week later she died.
