Default redknee youngsters

hiya, im new to the forum, and i've kept a few different species of tarantula, being in the form of a pink toe, 2 chilean rose spiders and a togo starburst.
i'm thinking about trying my hand at raising a few red knees from spiderlings, and i've no idea how to go about doing it.

just wondering if i can get a few pointers, ive been looking on the spider shop at things like juvenile jars to start off with.

do they require any heating? what kind of stuff should i put in the pots to start with?? and even if the juvenile jars are alright to keep little redknees in.

all pointers on raising slings are much appreciated! thanks alot.

Luke

I have raised a Red knee sling since it was about this big --- It's now this big ------------

Thay are very easy to care for. All the need when they are tiny is a a film cannister to live in, which is the sort of thing you'll probably buy it in anyway. I use Eco-Earth substrate. As they get a bit bigger I transfer them into a smal tupperare tub, and use a film cannister as a hide. I prefer to use a black one as a hide, as it's nice and dark in there then.

They don't need heatmats and do fine at room temp. Feed micro crix, but be prepared, Smithi's GROW SLOW and they will be on these size crix for a long time. They growth I've shown you above, has been over the space of 7 months!

They are beautiful spids, and a good, easy choice.

Go for it!!!

Hi Luke,

I'l start by saying to the forum, hope you like it here.

For red knee slings I would say the juvie jars from the spider shop would be fine, and would house the spider for a while.

I would suggest using eco earth substrate, keep it dry and spray once or twice a week.

use tiny crickets for food and increase the size of crickets as the spider grows, which will take a long long time with red knees!!

I personally wouldnt buy a proper spider tub now and tend to just use old pots that have been laying about.

I had a spare plastic faunarium for my first T, so that was easy. I bought a cheap RUB for my next with a few holes drilled in that cost about £3.50. Got a small clear plastic container (not sure what used to be in it) for my first sling. Had another 2 slings delivered the recently, one is still in its film pot it came in and the arboreal got upgraded to a Nescafe jar earier on

...oh, and old cricket containers im sure would be ideal as it gets a little bigger. I would like to get nice glass tanks made for when they are fully grown but until then cheap and cheerful is fine
