also some are more likely to eat the male prematurely than others (B. vagans especially)

if the male startles the female then he is almost certainly going to be dinner, sometimes there is no real reason other than 'because she can'

I have seen well fed recently moulted females chase the males to eat them, but at the same time seen hungry females show no aggression at all.

Not always due to feeding.. feed a GBB female up until its about to burst.. stick a male in, and its a high percentage that she'll still eat him!

This isn't true either. I've had a female H mems with a large locust in each raptoral limb and still turn her head around and chew half the head off a male.

I think they do it just because they can.

After a moult they can be mated, produce an eggsac if you're lucky then wait for another moult and be mated again.. You won't get babies everytime though. It's harder than it sounds.
