how to tell age of mantis?

ok, heres the thing:

my local shop has two mantids in stock: a giant asian and a budwinged

i am seriously thinking about getting the giant asian, but how do i know how old it is?
i don't think the shop will know - they're great with reptiles and fish and amphibians, nt really with inverts tho

it's about 1.5 - 2 inches...any ideas
?
