Default Indians Are Coming!

I was just curious to know why there is such a difference in price, between these, for example, one species, which is listed as small, is the same price as another, which is listed as large. Normally, you would pay less for one that was smaller...?

Also, compared to say my Cobalt and Baboon, do these have vastly different temp and humidity needs?

Many thanks

Steve

PS- Yes, I know these are fast, and I know they are said to be aggressive, in case anyone points this out....

Indian Ornamental (Poecilotheria fasciata) Medium £15.00
Indian Ornamental (Poecilotheria formosa) Large £30.00
Indian Ornamental (Poecilotheria miranda) Small £30.00
Indian Ornamental
(Poecilotheria pederseni) Small £10.00
Indian Ornamental (Poecilotheria striata) Large £30.00

obviously they are a totally different set up to the colbalt and baboon in the fact that they are aboreal, but heat and humidity wise then not alot, they require relatively high humidity.

I notice you have all the common names as indian ornamental well they are all ornamentals of one kind or another but not all indians, not that it matters because you have the scientific names there and thats the true ones.

The varying in price is because some are more common than others, and more often seen for sale.

In my experience I have kept a couple of P.regalis and a P.pederseni, and I wouldnt say they are very aggressive, however they do have a nasty bite, as you say they are fast extremely fast and agile, I thought my colbalt was fast, but these really are something else when they get going.

Strangely enough, my cobalt is not especially fast, however, my orange baboon is not only superfast, it is INSANE!!!

I had the hatch open the other day, just to mist the tank a bit, and it was no place to be seen, actually, it was hiding under the half plant pot that I have in there.

Suddenly, it comes charging at me like a nutcase on buckfast tonic wine, and had my reactions not be ULTRA fast, it would have been out, and gone!

What sort of height would you say the tank needs to be for one of the adult species that I listed, mate?

Steve

I would perhaps either go for this one

Indian Ornamental (Poecilotheria formosa) Large £30.00

or this one...

Indian Ornamental (Poecilotheria striata) Large £30.00

So, anyone that has kept either of those two, and can give me a heads up, much appreciated, etc...

at maximum an 18" glass tank on its end, some Pokies get pretty damn big so a tank of that size may be needed when fully grown.

You certainly need fast reactions with these guys, I use a plastic lid to block there path when they run off, which they usually do, most spiders will stop when they get to it, and you can guide them into a pot, not my P.regalis mere barriers dont stop her in fact they dont even slow her down she was up and over before I had a chance to draw breath, keeps you on your toes though, I have started clearing the lounge floor and sitting in the middle if I need to get them out for any reason, leaves more room for error

A foot and a half high, wow, that is pretty high.

Would a plastic tank suffice?

yeh if it was the right size, im just comparing it to a P.regalis which could get up to 7" then that will need a bit of room to climb and web, im not entirely sure how big a formasa or striata get to be honest.

TBH pokies do have a stigma and dont know why they are not as aggressive as people make them out they are more nervous and would rather run and hide away when you open the tank lid than try to run at you intent on biting like a baboon spider would. Pokies are great as they can be kept together (providing the enclosure isnt too big and they are kept from an early age)

I currently have a trio of formosa kept together all with 2 2.5 inch leg span in a large glass jar that is 1 cm high but is quite a wide shaped jar when they grow I will house them in one of the exo terra glass vivs
