Default House spider

My god I've just nearly jumped out of my skin. I was happily browsing t'internet and the biggest true spider I've ever seen just crawled accross my mouse hand. I'm no wuss mind. I have handled tarantulas and used to feed house spiders to my praying mantis', but bloody 'ell it made me jump. Now it's somewhere around the back of my desk, and I'm itching all over. It's the second big 'un I've seen today but this one was a monster. The other was on my bed! Shame I couldn't get a pic to show just how big it was.
Roll on next summer so they can all bugger off back outside.

As big as a male Tegeneria gigantea can get. About 3-4 inches leg span. I know it's not big on the scale of things, but it's not a good thing to have shock you when your not expecting it.
Wish I still had my mantids, it'd of made a good meal for one of them.

Funny, I was talking to a friend about how big house spiders are getting these days. Then a bit later the same day I was sorting out my spider room and my OH shouted of me, she was saying there is a massive spider on the wall, and it must be one of mine as it's so big. When I went to remove it. . . OMG! It was MASSIVE! I didn't even want to pick it up, so I used a crix box to move it.

Don't you think it's weird that we will keep, care for, and even touch (if need be) spiders that can get upto 10" plus, yet we're cautious about a house spider?
