Default Red knee substrates

On a program a few weeks back a zoologist had a pet tarantula, a red knee. Inside the tank there was about an inch or less of gravel as a substrate. I always thought they should be kept on something like soil, that they could burrow in. I don't actually own Ts so I'm probably wrong. Is gravel a suitable substrate for these guys?

Greavel is not a good idea. I keep mine on at least 4 inch of peat or potting soil/vermiculate mix. You get it a lot with zoologist, they want people to know about and respect the animal they are showing, yet they don't keep it the way it should be kept.

Thanks for the reply. I want to settle this argument that my mother and me had about it. :P She said he was a zoologist and obviously knows better than me but I was pretty sure these guys like to burrow.
