Default is it just me or are garden spiders getting bigger?

Has anyone else noticed the number of HUGE spiders that seem to find their way into the house recently? I've found a few stranded in the kitchen sink over the past months...

that one must have been 40 - 50mm accross! Monster!

yup, some are able to get bigger because the weather has been reletively stable, like throughout the year, not jsut summer. It gives them an opportunity to get bigger due to food influx andles climatic conditions
Theres even been a few spiders iv thought twice on holding walking into my room.. its ok though i have about 6 false widows living in my room too , they will eat anything, even considerably biger..lol found that out by loosing to pokie slings to my Steatodas, lmao pretty funny but doesnt truely suprise me

Yep, they are getting bigger. I have one in my garden that I feed large crix to when I feed my T's. I sit and watch it wrap it in silk, it's great. Lets hope they keep getting bigger and bigger as time goes on. You never know, we could end up with 12" garden spiders spinning 6ft webs. lol

I've got a load of those little stripey ones that jump living around my bedroom window... great for keeping the migy population down!

I don't mind spiders, as long as they can't get me lol

There is a massive one living in my lounge, I would catch it in a pint glass and take it outside but it wouldn't fit!

I keep true spiders aswel as T's, so I would love to see one that big.

Not sure if we can conclusively say that they are getting bigger, but when I find spiders that large, in the house or garden, I just pick them up, and throw them in with either one of my Mantids or my Egyptian Predator Beetle.

Where do native UK spiders go in winter?

Do they hibernate?

Do garden spiders in warmer climates also hibernate, or does the warmer weather keep them active all year round?

Steve
