With this, and many other species you are only looking for the length of the pectine so extream detail isnt always necassary.
The females have many fewer "combs" than the males, and although they are wider it does leave the pectine shorter slightly. I would expect a male pectine to reach to the center, if not the bottom of the second dorsal segment. The only way to be 1000% sure is to count the combs. But 9/10 length is reliable enough.
